December - DCCJ

December 2006 :  Danish Chamber of Commerce Japan

How to build relations using Dynamicweb

The primary objective of the Chamber is promotion and strengthening of the business relations between Denmark and Japan and to assist Scandinavian newcomers with advice as to how to get started "on the right track".

Today DCCJ has approx. 55 members.  Qualified to become members are companies that are represented or registered in Japan or Denmark and/or actively involved in the trade between the two countries.

In November 2006, a new website was launched which was vastly enhanced compared to the previous one.

“The intention is that this great new tool will work as an active platform for communication, be helpful and informative, and of course present our companies and business movements in a beneficial way for the members. With this new sharp profile, we are looking forward to continue the increased level of events and activities and together with the members take advantage of this milestone for DCCJ.”

 - Jacob Hjaere

Executive Director, DCCJ

Website Features

The website is widely used every day and there are certain functions that set it apart from other websites. For instance the rotation banner on the left and right side of the website which is handled by Dynamicweb Rotation.

This ensures equal promotion of all the members’ ads and makes the website more dynamic and interesting. Another thing that sets this website apart is the use of global elements. There are a lot of references to global elements on the website, and this means that if the administrators adjust a global element, e.g. an address of one of their members, the change will take effect everywhere the address appears on the website.

“We wanted to upgrade our visibility and found out that Next Inc. represents Dynamicweb Software A/S in Japan. When we presented the new website to the board of directors they were very pleased! One of our concerns was – could we update the website ourselves? The answer was clear as crystal: yes we could. I’m learning how to use Dynamicweb now and it amazes me how easy it is to use. One of the things that we had specially developed is the rotation banner that you see on the right and left side of the site. It has helped us attract new and existing advertisers because we can ensure them the same level of exposure no matter who they are, and we are very happy with that. It makes it easier to “sell the product””- Jacob Hjaere, DCCJ Executive Director

The website was implemented by Tokyo-based Next Inc. which provides integrated advertising and communication solutions for business markets. They deliver messages that help build your brand, and make it easy for your customers to buy from you. In Japan and internationally. Their tools are cutting-edge technology, targeted content and cohesive marketing strategies.

To publish and distribute information, Next Inc. implement web solutions to track customers and to engage them more directly, they build Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems. Search Engine Optimizing (SEO) enhances the power of websites. They then measure the results with statistical reporting and analysis. They use open and transparent web standard technologies, including CSS, XHTML, J2EE, XML, etc.

“We have been working with Dynamicweb for about a year. While we have the capability to build a CMS solution in-house, we have found that working with Dynamicweb makes more sense. In the case of the DCCJ site, we estimate that we managed to reduce the production time by around 2/3, compared with if we would had build the site from scratch. The system of add-on modules is also attractive to our clients, as it makes the site easily scalable – and that makes our sales work easier.”- Yoshihisa Shimada,Head of Interactive production,Next Inc.

DCCJ in brief

In the late 1950s a small group consisting of approximately 10 persons, representing Danish, Swedish and Norwegian companies in Japan, started to meet on a regular basis at Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.

The purpose of the meetings was to exchange views on business opportunities in Japan, and to assist Scandinavian newcomers with advice as to how to get started "on the right track". In the mid 1960s it was agreed to split up nationally, and the "Danish Businessman Club" was subsequently established, with members totalling 8 - 10 persons. The change of name into the "Danish Chamber of Commerce Japan"("DCCJ") and a new set of by-laws were agreed upon in 1990, outlining the primary objective of the Chamber to be promotion and strengthening of the business relations between Denmark and Japan.
