Geesa – Intelligent product presentation

Geesa is the name of a renowned Dutch producer of bathroom accessories. Founded as a copper-smith in 1885, the tradition-bound company started the production of its first soap dish as early as in the 1930s. Today, the company spans a wide line of high-quality bathroom products, which are used in private homes and by more than 1,000 hotels worldwide. Even the famous cruise ship, Queen Mary II has been fitted with Geesa products.

The ability to present a large number of products online in a clear and customer-friendly manner is a necessity for any organization which experiences rapid growth.  Geesa has seen its product portfolio expand to include 15 different product categories. One category – toilet roll holders – includes more than 50 different variants, which are all available with detailed descriptions on the website. The company therefore faces the challenge of avoiding information clutter. The goal, therefore, is to maintain clarity when making an abundance of product information available on the corporate website.

The task of maintaining and updating information on such a large number of product categories and individual products can be very time-consuming. With this in mind, Geesa turned to the Dutch web development consultancy, Design IT, for assistance on how to optimize this process.

Imar Spaanjaars, Technical Director at Design IT, helped Geesa identify and specify their needs:

From the beginning it was clear to us that the pivotal point of the web solution was an optimal representation of Geesa’s products. However, the focus was not just on optimizing the visitors’ online experience. It was also of great importance to insure that products could easily be added, edited and handled by people who are not necessarily highly-trained IT professionals.

During the process of identifying Geesa’s needs, it became obvious to us that a combination of Dynamicweb’s CMS solution and eCommerce tool would best address all the identified requirements.

Managing hundreds of products in multiple languages using just one solution

The end result of Design IT and Geesa’s united efforts was a solution in which the eCommerce product, Dynamicweb Product Catalogue is the backbone of the website. Using this module, Geesa is able to quickly sort their products into specified product categories, each consisting of a number of individual products. All product details are maintained in one place, including product information in multiple languages.

The Dynamicweb Product Catalogue has been integrated into the public website providing visitors with access to extensive information on hundreds of products. The module also allows Geesa to have a specific product appear in several categories without having to maintain the information in multiple places.

The website itself is based on the Dynamicweb Business platform, and being an internationally oriented market player, Geesa has chosen to implement the Dynamicweb Language/Area module in order to accommodate visitors’ varying language preferences. The module secures that structural and design-related changes can be put into effect on all languages at same time.

Imar Spaanjaars explains how Dynamicweb’s internationalization capabilities played a big role in Geesa’s choice of Content Management System:

Modules such as Dynamicweb Language/Area and Dealer Locator are extremely effective at ensuring that visitors with diverse geographical backgrounds can all retrieve valuable information from the website. The fact that with just three clicks you can choose your preferred language and find the retail outlet closest to you is something Internet users take for granted. Dynamicweb easily allows for Geesa to meet these demands.
